For Walailak University students, the Pradu tree<\/strong> is more than just a tree\u2014it is a symbol closely associated with the university. Yet, there is another time of year when Walailak University becomes particularly spectacular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the summer break, approximately from March to May<\/strong>, the university campus transforms into a colorful floral wonderland, with beautiful purple and pink blossoms<\/strong> blooming across its vast area of more than 9,000 rai<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meet the \u201cThree Botanical Twins\u201d <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Along the roads around campus in March, visitors will notice tall trees covered with delicate light purple and white flowers<\/strong>. Ask different people what they are called, and you may get different answers: Selao, Tabaek,<\/em> or Inthanin<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These three deciduous trees are often called the \u201cThree Botanical Twins\u201d<\/strong> because their flowers look remarkably similar, making them difficult to distinguish from one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But there is a simple trick to remember them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSelao has cracked bark, Tabaek has peeling bark, and Inthanin has smooth bark.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you know this little trick, identifying these three beautiful trees becomes much easier! \ud83c\udf33\ud83d\udd0e<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roadside Highlights: \u201cThe Color of WU\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Along the main and secondary roads throughout the university, a variety of flowering trees bloom at different times, creating a beautiful palette of colors across the campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pink Trumpet Tree (\u0e0a\u0e21\u0e1e\u0e39\u0e1e\u0e31\u0e19\u0e18\u0e38\u0e4c\u0e17\u0e34\u0e1e\u0e22\u0e4c)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

These beautiful pink blossoms can be found especially around the Architecture and Design Building<\/strong> and along the main entrance road to the university. When in full bloom, they create a scene reminiscent of Thailand\u2019s very own cherry blossoms<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tabaek<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Tabaek produces flowers ranging from light purple to white<\/strong>. Its smooth, hard bark and attractive canopy make it a popular choice for planting along roads, providing both shade and beauty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Water Jasmine & Queen\u2019s Flower (Inthanin Nam \/ Inthanin Bok)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

These trees produce striking purple to pinkish-purple flowers<\/strong>, with distinctive wrinkled petals. During the hot season, they can burst into dense, spectacular blooms, adding vibrant color to the campus landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trees and Flowers Around Key Buildings <\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the roadside flowers, various buildings and campus areas feature ornamental and auspicious plants that contribute to the university\u2019s identity and unique atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Professor Dr. Vijit Srisa-an Building (Administration Building)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Pradu Tree:<\/strong>
The university\u2019s symbolic tree, representing unity and harmony<\/strong>, is commonly planted around the Administration Building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Orange Jasmine (Kaew):<\/strong>
Known for its fragrant white flowers, this plant adds a refreshing and peaceful atmosphere around the office area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Academic Complex \u2013 Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong Building (ST)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Golden Shower Tree (Ratchaphruek \/ Khun):<\/strong>
Its brilliant yellow flowers create a striking contrast with the purple blossoms of Tabaek. These trees are often planted in open spaces between academic buildings, adding vibrant colors to the campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Desert Rose (Chuan Chom):<\/strong>
Often planted in pots and landscaped gardens around the academic buildings, this hardy plant thrives in strong sunlight and can produce flowers throughout the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Student Residence Area \u2013 Laksana Niwet<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Yellow Trumpet Flower (Thong Urai):<\/strong>
With its bright yellow flowers, this easy-to-grow plant can bloom throughout the year and is commonly found along the dormitory fences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bougainvillea:<\/strong>
Available in vibrant shades of purple, pink, and orange, bougainvillea is often shaped into beautiful bushes around the residence buildings, bringing a lively atmosphere to the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yellow Bells (Leuang Pradit Yathon):<\/strong>
These bright yellow flowers also bloom during the summer break, creating a beautiful contrast against the clear blue sky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Botanical Garden and Surrounding Areas<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Mimusops elengi (Phikun):<\/strong>
A traditional auspicious tree often found in common areas, providing shade as well as pleasantly fragrant flowers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lotus:<\/strong>
Found in ponds and water features around the university, lotus flowers provide beautiful scenery and are among the campus\u2019s popular photo and check-in spots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
